Your New In-Feed Instagram Strategy
When client’s come to us, they usually have an idea of how many times they want to post on Instagram. This number is anywhere from 2x a day to 2x a week. But what is the right cadence?
Typically speaking, these are what we suggest to clients:
8-20 posts per month in-feed
2-15 story series per week
2-14 Reels per week
For most brands, the more content posted, the more views - the higher your chances are to reach more of your audience. As you know the algorithm won’t show all your content to all of your followers every time. For video content, we may be more focused on landing on the Explore Page, however they want content that people will love. In-feed content has started to just feel like content just for updating your followers on sales, PR, new store announcements, etc.
What if I told you that some of the best brands (in my opinion) hardly ever post to Instagram. Are they seeing the sales the same way the other brands are? I honestly can’t say - however their engagement and video views are typically higher AND their followers seem all in on the brand.
Here are a few brands who do this well:
What are they doing that’s different than other brands?
Not posting consistently - if you look at how often they are posting per week or per month, you won’t be able to nail down an average number. This is because when they post it’s organic - may be slightly planned around something big for the brand, but not your average scheduled social media content. Each post is a MOMENT not filler content. Even the most basic of a post (like a sale) is given a content moment, very much unlike every other brand you see out there.
How can you apply this strategy to your brand?
More Planning - Typically posting less but better content takes more planning/strategy/prep. You may think posting less is going to take less time and resources (which it may) but if you are posting a ton of filler content all the time with your same old assets this will most likely take more time and thought.
Continue Developing your Brand - Brands that post filler content or have a hard time knowing what to post may need to work on their overall brand more. These brands seem to know who they are and know their customers - which usually makes content creation easy.
Bring in Outside Voices - The best way to continue to evolve your brand and strategy is getting help from the outside. You may be too close to the brand to be able to see what’s missing or develop ideas that are out of the box.
