How to Utilize Instagram Notes & Broadcast Channels

As these new tools on Instagram are becoming more popular (and rolled out to everyone now) you may be wondering - How can I best utilize Notes and Broadcast Channels for my brand on Instagram? Well today we are going to dive into some ideas on how to use these tools to your advantage.

One thing to note (and this goes for any feature on Instagram or most social media channels) - the more you take advantage of new features the app/algorithm will reward you - so being one of the first to really dive into using these tools will work to your advantage on these apps.

NOTES:

  • What are Instagram Notes?

    • Instagram Notes allow you to post short messages to those followers that follow you back, which will appear at the top of your direct messaging feed. Similar to Stories, these messages appear for only 24 hours. However, unlike other features on Instagram, you can only post one note within that 24-hour window. The great thing about notes are to catch people’s attention on your profile and they are just text based so you don’t have to worry about developing any visual content for it. This also opens the door to give people a reason to DM you.

  • What are some ideas to utilize for Notes?

    • Short announcements (products, collabs, new store announcements, etc.)

    • Questions you want to prompt conversation around (so people will DM you)

    • Prompt a contest/giveaway or challenges

BROADCAST CHANNELS:

  • What are Broadcast Channels?

    • Broadcast channels are a public, one-to-many messaging tool for creators to directly engage with their followers at scale. Creators can use broadcast channels to help followers stay in-the-know with the latest updates and behind-the-scenes moments using text, photo, video, voice notes and polls. What we love about Broadcast Channels is that it allows you to send content to your audience (who opted in) with notifications.

  • What are some ideas to utilize for Broadcast Channels?

    • Share updates about the business that may not warrant a full post

    • Sharing thought leadership type content (think about what you may share on LinkedIn) or even relevant articles/thoughts you would like people to engage with/share their feedback on

    • Publish exclusive content and share discounts

    • Share content you want engagement on (that you shared on the public profile)

    • Utilize polls and gain feedback as you may be working on new ideas, initiatives, products, etc.

    • Gain insights to who your community is following - aka asking what influencers/UGC creators you should be working with. You can even utilize this community to build a brand ambassador program.

    • Host AMA events
